March 16 – 18
This is the third workshop convening stakeholders in the Art + Science + Technology research field funded by the National Science Foundation Computer & Information Science and Engineering directorate Information and Intelligent Systems division. The first workshop in this series RE/search: Art, Science, and Information Technology: a joint meeting of the National Science Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts was held in September 2010. The second workshop Bridging STEM to STEAM: developing new frameworks for Art/Science pedagogy was held at the Rhode Island School of Design in January 2011.
The workshop will focus on the intellectual, infrastructural and managerial requirements to create a network of institutions that can support researchers, engineers, and artists in realizing concrete research and creative productions that lie at the intersection of the Arts, Science, and Technology. In this workshop we will convene stakeholders in the field to discuss the needs, approaches, benefits, and impact of a “network of excellence” that could for example provide a platform to catalyze and facilitate proposals, support and collaborations for larger scale projects that maximize inter-institutional efforts.
The area of Art + Science + Technology is a diverse and eclectic research area that continues to grow in academic and research institutions across the United States. Arguably trans-disciplinary projects are a challenge for institutions and the individuals engaged in these efforts. The goal of this workshop is to develop strategies and access the feasibility for an inter-institutional network that can build bridges to connect institutions and individuals who are engaged in trans-disciplinary Art + Science + Technology research and practice.
This workshop is by invitation only.
