Verdensteatret: Louder

In a sea of loudspeakers, shadow puppets shake in front of video landscapes, watched over by a huge mechanical spider, activated by actor-musicians. By combining robotics, video, sound, music, object Theater and new technology, louder is a performance inspired by travels in the Mekong Delta. Verdensteatret, based in Oslo, Norway, creates collaborative performance installation works and builds links between seemingly incompatible technologies, materials and performance modes.

About Verdensteatret:

Verdensteatret is one of the most innovative stage arts companies in Norway. Founded by Lisbeth J. Bodd and Asle Nilsen in 1986, and comprised of a group of artists from a wide range of arts disciplines, Verdensteatret create collaborative works which build links between seemingly incompatible technologies, materials and performance modes. They have developed a unique and complex audiovisual style, where sound spaces mingle with sculptural scenography and stories of the interior life of the human soul. These peculiarly captivating works of art defy established notions of form or performance style, becoming a sort of orchestra of image, object and sound.

Verdensteatret shows their works in various contexts, including art museums, galleries, contemporary music festivals and on stage. In 2007, Verdensteatret had a major exhibition of installations in Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo. In both sky-lit rooms visitors could view the electro-mechanical figure Theater installation "The Telling Orchestra" and the new installation based on the stage production of "louder". ”The Telling Orchestra” was further exhibited at the international exhibition ”Synthetic Times - Media Art China 2008” at the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC) in Beijing, June/July 2008.
