Heartbeat Opera: “Lady M”

Lady Macbeth, with one soliloquy renouncing the bonds of her sex, gave villainesses in theatre and film a lodestar, and she takes center stage in “Lady M,” Heartbeat Opera’s reconception of Verdi’s dark and stormy “Macbeth.” The young, lean company previews its new production, due next spring, with a forty-five-minute “virtual soirée” that includes a short live performance, a music video of the sleepwalking scene, and a Q. & A. with singers. Attendees pay twenty dollars for a Zoom link to join the event, which is capped at twenty devices to maintain a salon-style intimacy.
