Edward George speaks with WOOC about Black Atlas at TOPOS 2026

London-based multimedia artist Edward George will present the American premiere of his most recent film "Black Atlas: The Strangeness of Aby Warburg" at The Sanctuary for Independent Media on Wednesday September 2nd, 2026. The evening, which is a collaboration with iEAR Presents and EMPAC, begins at 5pm with a Be The Media! workshop during which he will talk about his research; the screening of the film begins at 7pm and will be followed by a conversation between Edward and poet and theorist Fred Moten. This is but one of the artists other presentations and performances to be held at EMPAC as part of its Topos Festival. Carolyn Tennant talked with the artist about his projects, Warburg, and the challenges of working through thousands of images to create an essay film that is equally rooted in the improvisatory music which informs his larger practice.
