Arabella Stanger

Arabella Stanger is a dance researcher and educator based in the UK where she is Associate Professor in Drama: Theatre and Performance at the University of Sussex. Her work explores the politics of bodily movement: from modernist and contemporary theater choreographies, to disco dance floors and forms of industrial protest. She is the author of Dancing on Violent Ground: Utopia as Dispossession in Euro-American Theater Dance (Northwestern University Press, 2021), was awarded the David Bradby Monograph Prize in 2022, and is co-editor of DISCO! Music, Image, Dance (Oxford University Press, 2025). She is recipient of a Leverhulme Research Fellowship for her latest project, Reparative Movements: Dancing Health in Twentieth-Century Britain.
