Rucyl Mills

Rucyl Mills is an artist and composer whose practice moves among sound, performance, installation, and instrument design. She uses sound to investigate what cannot easily be held or perceived, including time, gravity, memory, and the transformation of energy. When existing technologies fall short, she builds her own, from wearable controllers and solar-powered instruments to software that listens and responds. Shaped by Philadelphia’s underground music community, her work draws from soul, dancehall, hip-hop, jazz, new wave, and experimental music. Mills received the 2025 Hermitage Greenfield Prize and 2025 Simons Foundation Art & Science Open Interval Grant
