EMPAC Tours
EMPAC building tours take visitors behind the scenes to experience the center’s infrastructure as few do. Each one is hosted by EMPAC staff with a different area of expertise–so whether you attend one or all this spring, there’s always something new to learn and discover!
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11 AT 11AM WITH LEAD AUDIO ENGINEER TODD VOS
Join this deep-dive into the acoustic design and production capabilities of EMPAC with Lead Audio Engineer Todd Vos. Audiophiles and novices alike will hear extraordinary details and have their questions answered as the tour moves from the specialized sound-diffusive panels in Studio 1—Goodman, to the frequency-calibrated Nomex ceiling fabric in the Concert Hall and into the miles of fiber-optic cable that connect each of EMPAC’s performance spaces to its in-house recording studios.
SATURDAY MARCH 18 AT 1PM WITH ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, RESEARCH JONAS BRAASCH
Your tour with Jonas Braasch, EMPAC’s recently appointed Associate Director of Research whose specialties include aural architecture, will highlight features of EMPAC’s facilities from an architect’s point of view. Visitors will hear insights about the center’s capabilities and the story of how Braasch developed the CRAIVE-Lab (Collaborative Research Augmented Immersive Virtual Environment) from the EMPAC panorama screen, which remains a key feature often in use by artists and researchers alike.
SATURDAY APRIL 1 AT 11AM WITH SENIOR CURATOR FOR THEATER AND DANCE ASHLEY FERRO-MURRAY
Join Ashley Ferro-Murray for a behind-the-scenes look at EMPAC’s production facilities. Ferro-Murray will discuss the acoustic and visual potential of each EMPAC venue for the making of complex performance works, including a tour of Sage Ni’Ja Whitson’s upcoming Transtraterrestrial A Prequel and Premiere of The Unarrival Experiments—Unconcealment Ceremonies.
